‘Every Child Matters’
The pupil premium is designed to ensure that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most. The funding is allocated to Local Authorities and schools with pupils from Reception to Y11 who are eligible for free school meals (FSM), are looked after or have parents currently in the armed forces. From April 2012 the coverage of the premium was widened to include those eligible for FSM at any point in the last six years.
We ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all pupils.
We ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups. This specifically includes ensuring that the needs of socially disadvantaged pupils are addressed.
In making provision for socially disadvantaged pupils, we recognise that not all pupils who are eligible for free school meals are socially disadvantaged.
We also recognise that not all pupils who are socially disadvantaged are registered or qualify for free school meals. We therefore allocate Pupil Premium funding to support any pupil or groups of pupils that the school has legitimately identified as being socially disadvantaged.
Pupil Premium funding is paid to schools depending on the number of pupils who have:
•Been registered for free school meals at some point in the last six years.
•A parent in the armed forces
•Have been looked after for one day or more, are adopted, leave care under a special guardianship order or a residence order
In the 2016-17 financial year schools receive:
•£1320 for each eligible primary aged pupil
•£300 for each pupil with parents in the armed forces
•£1900 for each eligible looked after pupil
This will be allocated following half termly/ termly needs analysis which will identify priority groups for intervention groups to overcome barriers to learning.
We have a range of provision in place to support children who belong to vulnerable groups, including those who are socially disadvantaged. This provision has the full support of the Governing Body and includes:
Providing small group intervention work with an experienced teacher or TA focussed on overcoming gaps in learning
Literacy – reading and writing, speaking and listening
Homework Club targeting PP
Speech and language
Accelerated Reading Programme starting in KS1, when children are ready, and across KS2
Soundswrite phonics programme
Big Write programme introduced across the school
ICT – Education City, Clicker, Purple Mash, Espresso
Staffing and Staff training
Additional support for assessments, training and advice from specialists such as speech therapists, educational psychologists etc., social interventions
Early Years Liaison Assistant
Specialist music lessons to give teachers extra time to prepare/assess interventions
Emotional Wellbeing – training for Key member of staff to include resources to train the rest of the staff.
Extra assessment and planning time, INSET days and meetings
Maths and literacy training
Assessment and analysis training
Big Write training for all teachers.
We employ our own staff to deliver Reading intervention during breakfast club
Contributions towards activities that broaden the curriculum
All our work funded by the Pupil Premium will be aimed at accelerating progress so that the gap between the children who are socially disadvantaged is closed.
The Pupil Premium Lead will produce annual reports for the Governors’ standards committee on:
•the progress made towards narrowing the gap, by year group, for socially disadvantaged pupils
•an outline of the provision
•an evaluation of the cost effectiveness, in terms of the progress made by the pupils receiving a particular provision, when compared with other forms of support
The Governors of the school will ensure that there is an annual statement to parents and carers on how the Pupil Premium funding has been used to address the issue of ‘narrowing the gap’, for socially disadvantaged pupils. This statement will be published on the school’s website
MONITORING AND REVIEWING THE POLICY
Our work in relation to the Pupil Premium will be reviewed on a termly basis to ensure it is having the intended impact in narrowing the gaps. This will allow us to make adjustments if particular strategies are not working well, rather than leaving things to the end of the year. Our Pupil Premium Policy will be reviewed on an annual basis and adjustments will be made to it, according to the impact the school is having in narrowing the gaps. It will also take into consideration the increased funding that becomes available under the Pupil Premium Grant.
We recognise the importance of context and will evaluate new strategies as robustly as possible to ensure that the approaches we are using have the desired effect. To do this effectively we will, where relevant, undertake ongoing evaluations of the strategies we are using, such as that outlined in The DIY Evaluation Guide provided by the Education Endowment Foundation. Our annual review will involve staff, pupils, governors and parents and carers.

This Pupil Premium policy along with the details of actions will be published on our website (with paper copies available on request in the school office)
We will also use other methods and occasions such as parents’ evenings and assemblies, as appropriate to share information about the Pupil Premium.
